Writing Assessment Review

Today in WGA we are reviewing our writing assessment from terms 1 and 4. We looked at what our rubric score is and saw what we have to improve on. Before we looked at the rubric score we had to reread our writing. The seven things you can score on are our ideas, structure, organisation, vocabulary, sentence, punctuation and spelling. I scored 4 for ideas, 4 for structure, 5 for organisation, 4 for vocabulary, 5 for sentence, 5 for punctuation and 5 for spelling.

My next steps to getting better at writing would be looking at my structure, vocab and also my ideas. How I will work on my next steps is by looking at some words I can put instead so a word, strengthen my ideas. and also put my sentences in the right paragraph or right place.

Creative Writing

Today in wga we are doing creative writing. We are following along with the teacher. The photo is of a snowy forest with houses and Christmas decor. It's been a while since we did creative writing with the teacher. Here is my writing and the photo.

As the dark sky blooms the stars of the night start to shine through the tall trees. The light of the house glows making the stars and trees shine more than the sun. As I look around more the snow starts to turn to ice as the trees are filled with snow. The people start to come out of their house, the snow starts falling and the Christmas tree starts to shine.

The people sit down on the deck in their Christmas outfits. Each of the people has different things on their top and pants, it could be reindeers, snow falling, reefs and maybe Santa with Mrs Claus. A reindeer comes outside with a plate on its back. On the plate, there are cookies and also hot cocoa on the plate.

As the reindeer is going to the people he falls. The people rush to pick up the glass but then some of them get glass in their hands. The people get up and put bandages on their hands. The poor reindeer has hot cocoa all over him.

Most of the people rush to the kitchen to get wet paper towels. The other people run to the reindeer to try to calm him down. Even though he is calm, he is just sitting there waiting for the people to get off him. When the people finally get off him, he gets up and walks to the snow. When he is at the snow, he rolls in it to get the cocoa off him.

Healthy menu

Today in health we are finishing off what we started yesterday. In health we looked at healthy eating and our activity was to create a healthy menu for a week. This took a bit because I didn't really know what to put. We also have to put photos on the slideshow of what it is. Here is my work.

B + E

For the past, around 3-2 weeks in Wānanga we have been doing B+E. B+E means Business and Enterprise. The people in my group are Shanaya, Stella and Alexia. Our CEO is Shanaya. Our business advisor is Mr Taylor. We are selling all different kinds of things. The things we are selling are bottlecap snowman, bookmarks, painted rocks and some lollies. We just thought about what we were going to sell and that is what we came up with. We will sell our product at Hornby High School. The day we are going to sell them is December 1st. There are multiple reasons why we are doing market day. One of the reasons is so we can have EOTC trips and the end of the year. Another reason is so that we can learn how it is to make a business or sell things. There are more reasons why we do market day. I think that it is good we do B+E. The reason why I think that is because we get to interact with other people and also make stuff. I think I am looking forward to seeing what people are selling. I think that the challenging part will be when we make the product. My favourite part will probably be when we are making the sign for our table. Here is a marketing DLO.

Writing

For the past 3-5 weeks we have been doing writing. We have done lots of different types of writing. So far we have done around 9 different pieces of writing. They all have been different from the others. We also have gone outside with the teacher and she has read us some stories. All of the stories she read us have been different from the others. There are a few pieces of writing that I like. Here is one of the stories I like even though it is not finished.

Setting: Mount Olympus
It was a calm day on the Mount. All of the demi-gods, goddesses and gods were doing something. Only the best demi-gods, goddesses and gods were on mount Olympus. All of the demi-gods were practising their powers and how it would be like in Asgard. Most of the goddesses were trying to make a new power or a new outfit for battle. Most of the gods and some of the goddesses were in the mountains hall. The reason why most of the gods and some goddesses were in them is that there were so many people intruding on Mount Olympus. Only the strongest gods and goddesses are allowed in the hall. They are trying to make a plan to close the border from Asgard and Gotham.

Setting: Gotham
In Gotham, there were people trying to get to Mount Olympus except for Mario. Mario was practising his spells. Even though Mario isn’t a goddess or a demi, he still is treated the same. Most of the time he is helping the goddess and demi. He is known as the healer or the nicest person on Gotham. Hundreds of people come to Mario every day to get help from him. Most of the time the reason why all of the demis and goddesses are to get Mario to Mount Olympus. Sometimes the portal opens but not fully for anyone to get in.

Setting: Gotham and soon it goes to Mount Olympus Sometimes it is big enough to fit a person but it only stays open for 3 seconds. It’s been a long time since that happened so it might happen sooner or later. Then it SUDDENLY happened…. IT OPENED. Mario was sad that he has to leave them but he knows it for the good. When Mario got through to the other side. Mario was stunned by what he can see. Soon after Mario processed what he can see he started walking up the mountain. Mario was still shocked made it to the mount.

Setting: Mount Olympus When Mario was walking up the mountain he started to feel uneasy so he looked behind him. Nothing was there so he continued walking up the mountain. Soon he felt more uneasy so he said one of his spells. The spell he said was to make him see anything that was invisible. After he said that spell he started running. While he was running he looked behind and saw a dragon. The dragon looks like it was made out of air. Then he realised that it was Annabeth’s dragon.

Setting: Mount Olympus Annabeth is the goddess of air. She is one of the strongest goddesses. She is the 5th strongest goddess. There are only 20 of the strongest gods/goddesses. There are gods for all of the elements. The elements are air, weather, earth/nature, water, fire, light, music/sound, technology and more. There is a power of the key. Most people call the power of key and element even though it is not one.

100 Word Challenge

Today in Wānanga we have to do a 100-word challenge. The photo is about a water slide and pools. Here is my work.

It was a very warm day in Whitehill. Everyone was outside doing something. I was at the pools with my friends and family. There are a lot of people there. My family paid for us to go on the waterslide. There were a lot of people going on the waterslides when we came but now there are not a lot of people going on it. There are 5 different types of pools. There are two big pools outside and 1 small pool outside as well. Inside there is 1 massive pool and 1 small pool. When you go there the place has inflatables. Soon I go on a waterslide with my cousins.

Angles

Today in maths we had to create a slideshow about different types of angles. There are many different types of angles that we found on the slideshow. On the slideshow, we have to do put pictures of what angle it is on the slide. Here is the slideshow.

Financial Literacy

For the past 2 weeks in wga, we have been looking at financial literacy. The reason why we have been looking at that is because we are starting B & E next week and we have to get ready for it. B & E is business and enterprise. We have to do some work on financial literacy. We have 3 tasks to do. We could work by ourselves or do it with a partner. I choose to do it with a partner. Here is my work and answers.

Making A Brand

Yesterday in hurumanu/maths I finished my work and started doing work we are meant to do the next day. We finished the work today. The work we did is create our own brand. You could do it by yourself or with a partner. I choose to do it with a partner. My partner is my friend Alexia. We have to make a copy of a drawing and put stuff on it. The stuff we put on it is a colour plate, inspiration, other ideas, what our text will look like. We choose to make our brand plush key chains. We also made a logo. We have to say what aspect of Te Whare Tapa Wha it is in. I think it would mostly fit in Taha Hinengaro. The reason why I think it would fit in there is because it would help with stress. Here is our work.

Persuasive Writing review

Today in wananga we are doing a review on persuasive writing. The reason why is because we have a test later on in the term. We have to write about the importance of business and enterprise in school. Year 7s have to write 2 paragraphs. Year 8-9s have to do 4-5 paragraphs. Here is what I wrote.

I think that it is important to learn about business and enterprise in school. It is important to learn business and enterprise because if you don't know about it you won't know what to do in the future. If you don't know what business and enterprise are you won't know how to do a proper budget, be smart with money and more. Business and enterprise in school are learning what to do with money and what it is like to make a small business.

If you do business and enterprise in school you could do a market day. Market day is where you spend around 7-8 weeks on making a small business. In your small business, you are making products for you to sell. You are making a logo/sign to put in front of your table. When it is market day you will have a table for you to put your products on it. You will put your logo/sign on the front of the table.

If you don't do business and enterprise in school and you want to start a business you won't know how to. You won't know how to make a budget, how to make a plan, how to start it or maybe even what to do.  Them are some reason why it is important to do business and enterprise in school. Another reason why it is important to learn about business and enterprise in school is if you don't know how to promote your business if you are making one.

These were the reasons why I think it is important to do business and enterprise in school. You need to learn about business and enterprise because in the future you will know what to do.

B & E - Vocab

This term in wānanga, we are doing business and enterprise. We haven't started it this week but in wga we are doing stuff about it. The reason we are doing stuff about it is so we know what to do what it happens. Yesterday we started doing some vocab words about it.  The words I choose to do were budget, savings, profit, spending and goals. We also have to give an example of what will happen in the real world. I choose to do it on canvas. I did a presentation. Here is the presentation.

Drama

Today in drama we are writing a reflection about this term. We have to write about what we did and what we enjoyed. I learnt that melodrama is a genre. My favourite genre is mystery and adventure. I also learnt what clowning is.  At the start of the term, we learn about F.A.R.T.S. F stands for focus. A stands for action. R stands for role. T stands for tension. S stands for space. The most recent thing we learnt was different types of drama/theatre. The drama/theatre types we learnt were tragedy, melodrama, comedy, physical drama and epic drama. My favourite game that we played would be park bench.

1. Tragedy: I like tragedy because there are lots of stuff that happen. A tragedy movie is Romeo and Juliet.
2. Comedy: I like comedy because there are lots of funny stuff in their movies. A comedy movie is Deadpool.
3.  MeloDrama: I liked melodrama because there are different types of villains, heroes and victims. A MeloDrama movie is spiderman.

Here is a video of comedy:

Create A Game

Today in wānanga we got given three activities. We can choose what one we want to do. I choose to make a game. The game has to be created with two cones, a ball, and 5 minutes. We got to choose if we wanted to make the game with another person. I choose to make the game with my friend Alexia. It was Alexia's idea to make the game. Here are the instructions for the game.

Create a game activity
Partner - Carla

 . 2x cones

.  1x Ball

Closer Cone

1. Put the cones 2 - 1 meters apart and grab the ball.
2. The first team in line has to roll the ball in between the cones without touching the cones in the process.3. Each time the person gets the ball in between the cones, the cones will get closer and closer.4. Each team will have a 5-minute timer to do this and try to get more in between the cones.

Reflection - Week 9

Today in wānanga our teacher said we are reflecting on this week. We have done lots of stuff this term. There are 4 things we have to talk about. Here is what we have to talk about. One of the things we have to talk about is CARR values. I showed respect in art, I wasn't like other people in the class and was yelling and annoying the teacher. I showed achievement in maths, I finished what we were supposed to do. Most of the people in the class I am in were not close to finishing. I showed commitment by finishing all of my work. The next thing we have to talk about is how we are doing on Arts kete and whats is going on. For arts kete, I am in wooden games. We don't have enough time to make them wood because of covid so we are now doing them on paper. We are going to laminate the games. The group I am in we are making a memory match game. After we talk about arts kete we have to talk about how we managed this week. I think I did pretty good this week even though there were a few relievers. Even though there were lots of hiccups with other people I did a good job managing this week (the hiccups were not with me). After we talk about that we have to make a goal for the last week of the term. My goal for the last week of the term is to try and get 3/2 full CARR cards.

Art

For around the past 4 weeks, we have been looking at Henri Rousseau and jungle print. We first looked at Henri Rousseau and his art. When we were looking at Henri Rousseau we got given one of his art and we had to cut it out. We cut it to measure the foreground, middle ground and background. Later on, we looked at jungle print. For jungle print, we had to go to the printer and make a jungle with the stuff we had. We had to do 3 prints. After we did that we had to trace it onto baking paper. We had to trace all three of the prints we did. After we did the trace the teacher printed it out. The teacher printed it out 2 times. The reason why she printed it out 2 times is so that one of them is full of colour and the other one is the same as when it came out of the printer. After we did that we have to do a blog.

Sorry it is a bit blurry

1. Univeral indicator
2. 1 m HCI
3. 1 m NaOH
4. 4 test tubes
5. Test tubes rack
6. 2 plastic pipettes.

Method:

1. Take a test tube rack with 1 boiling tube at each end of the rack and 4 test tubes.
2. Half full the boiling tube at one with Sodium Hydroxide.
3. Half full the boiling tube at the other end with Hydrochloric acid.
4. Fill each test tube with 5 drops of Univeral indicator.
5. Using the pipettes you will add drops of acid or alkaline to the test tubes to make colours of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet.
6. Do not mix up the pipettes.

Challenge:
To use the acids and alkalines to make colours of the pH scale.

Out of the 6 test tubes, you should have the order of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet.

Once you have completed this you need to take a photo of your test tube rack.

Activity:
1. Make your own copy of the pH scale. On the paper provided make 14 boxes and colours them the correct colours according to the pH scale.

2. Make a drawing of the experiment from yesterday. Use the back of the paper with the pH scale. Label all of the equipment.

Conclusion:
For the challenge, the group I was in got all of the colours.

Parihaka

Today in Nga Tangata we are still looking at Parihaka. We have been looking at Parihaka since last week. We have to do some vocab. The vocab words are confiscate, Te whiti, Tohu, Peacefull protest, Te Raukura Feather. After we do the vocab we have to do flash cards. To do the flash card we get a piece of paper that has 4 puzzle pieces on it. On the puzzle pieces we put stuff from the flash card on it. When we are finished doing the flash cards we have to cut out the puzzle pieces to make a feather. After we do that we have to take a photo of the feather and make a blog about what we did today. Here is the vocab and a photo of the feather.

Confiscate: Taking someones stuff with authority.

Te Whiti: Te Whiti is a person and they were a leader.

Tohu: Tohu is a person and they were a leader.

Peaceful Protest: Peaceful protest is a protest without harming people.

Te Raukura Feather: Ta Raukura is a feather that means hope, faith, spiritual power.

Tongan Language Week

For the past week in wānanga, we have been looking at Tongan language week. The reason why we are doing it this week and not last week is because we didn't have enough time and the teachers didn't have anything for us to do. We have to make a slideshow with our work on it. Our teacher sent us a slideshow with what we have to do on it. Here is the work I did.

Thursday 16 September 2021

Litmus Paper

Today in science we are looking at litmus paper.

Litmus is a tree lichen fungi and is made into small paper strips or a liquid for testing acids or alkalines.

1. Blue litmus paper determines if something is acidic. It turns red in solutions with a pH less than 7.

2. Red litmus paper determines if something is alkaline. It turns blue in solutions with a pH greater than 7.

Litmus experiment:

Materials:
1. Red litmus paper
2. Blue litmus paper
3. Sodium hydroxide
4. Hydrochloric acid
5. pipette
6. 4 test tubes

Steps:
1. Rip the litmus paper in half and put half in each test tube.
2. Add 3 drops of hydrochloric acid to the red litmus paper in test tube 1.
3. Add 3 drops of hydrochloric acid in the blue litmus paper in test tube 2.
4. Add 3 drops of sodium hydroxide to the blue litmus paper in test tube 3.
5. Add 3 drops of sodium hydroxide to the red litmus paper in test tube 4.

Findings:

The blue litmus paper with hydrochloric acid went red
The red litmus paper with hydrochloric acid went didn't change
The red litmus paper with sodium hydroxide went blue. The water went yellow
The blue litmus paper with sodium hydroxide went didn't change.

Conclusion:
Blue litmus is an acidic
red litmus is alkaline.

Dogs - Puppies

For the past 2 and a half weeks, Me and my family have been looking after 7 puppies. The reason why we are looking after 7 puppies is because my 2 dogs had them. My dogs are chocolate labradors. One of my dogs is skinny, very tall and dopey. My other dog is big and small but fast. Since the puppies are 2 and a half weeks old they are starting to walk and most of them have their eyes open wide. All of the puppies are chocolate. There are 2 runts out of all of them. Here is a photo of the puppies.

Parihaka

Yesterday in Nga Tangata we started looking at Parihaka. We had to read 3 articles about Parihaka. We had to make a copy of a slideshow and do our work on there. Here is my work.

Science - Acids and Bases

Today in Science we are looking at acids and bases.

What makes something acid?
An acid contains Hydrogen atoms that break off to react with a substance.

What are 3 examples/names of acids:
Hydrochloric Acid
Sulfuric Acid
Nitric Acid
Citric Acid
Acetic Acid
Formic Acid
Carbonic Acid

What is an acid?

An acid (HA) is a solution that breaks into H+ and A-

How does sherbet react when you put it in your mouth? The sherbet dissolves.

What ingredient in the sherbet is tingly in your mouth? The ingredient in the sherbet that is tingly is baking soda.

Conclusion:
Make sure to do the measurements properly or it will taste bad. baking soda has lots of different uses.

Reading - MeMe & Me

Today in Wga we have time to do work that we did earlier in the week. The work I am doing is hurumanu. I read a story called MeMe & Me. In the story, the girl begged her parents for a phone and also did cleaning at her nan's house to get money. The girl's name is Nina. We have to answer some questions from the story.

The main points of the story are Nina gets a phone, she gets a friend called MeMe. MeMe is very rude to her. At the end, Nina gets trapped in the phone and MeMe is now in her body. MeMe looks like Nina.

MeMe is a person on the phone who looks like Nina. MeMe is a person who is friends with Nina. We think MeMe is a robot.

There is a possibility that this can happen in real life but I don't think it will. The reason why I think at it will not happen in real life is because there is lots of things that are like this already.

I don't know what the author is trying to tell us.

Lockdown - Baking

In lockdown, me and my sister decided to bake stuff. We baked pancakes together. The pancakes were plain because we didn't put anything on them. Next time I might add some jam or butter on them. I also tried to make banana doughnuts but they turned out to be like muffins. I tried to make cinnamon butter but it turned out like it was just sugar mixed with butter. The banana muffins turned out very plain and dry. It was my first time making banana doughnuts. Next time I could try and bake them on something different and not cook them for so long.

Lockdown Movies - Edge Of Tomorrow, The Platform

In the time of the lockdown, I had watched some movies. The movies I have watched are "Edge of Tomorrow" and "The Platform". There is another movie I am watching is "The Loud House". Two of these movies are ones my sister picked. She picked "The Platform" and "The Loud House". We have to rate the movies out 10. For Edge of Tomorrow, I would rate it 8.5/10. I rate it that because there are a few things they could have done better, but it was also made in 2014. For The Platform, I rate it a 7/10. I rate it that because there are also a few things they could do better, I also didn't understand some parts of the storyline. The characters in Edge of Tomorrow are, Rita Vrataski, Lt Col Bill Cage, Karen Lord, Master Sergeant Farell, General Brigham, Nance, Dr Carter, Kimmel, Griff, Kuntz, Skinner, Cruel Sergeant, Colonel Walter Marx, Slovakain Soldier, Pilot, Julie, Drop Ship Pilot, Doctor, Ford, Dog Soldier Summers, Takeda, Dr Whittle, Dog Soldier, J Squad Soldier. The character in The Platform are, Miharu, Trimasgasi, Imoguiri, Goreng, Baharat, Sr Brambang, Baharats Friend, Inmate #1, Amigo De Baharat, Cook #1, Cocinero, Preso, Mail, Chef, Presa Nivel 5 and Jefe de Restaurante. I would recommend these movies to people who like action and a bit of gore. In "The Platform" there is a lot of gore. In the movie "The Platform" there is a platform with food the comes down every day. You have to get on the platform and survive. You start at a level and you have to go down to level 1 and then the platform will go very fast back up. At the start you can bring anything you want in(don't know about food though). In the movie "Edge of Tomorrow", a person replays the day again and again till he does what is set for him.

Bacteria

Today in science we are learning about bacteria. We watched two videos telling us about bacteria.  Bacteria is good and bad because it helps you in different ways. Bacteria looks like a rod or spiral shape. Bacteria is inside your cells. 90% of bacteria is in your cells.

Walt:
To look at different types of bacteria.

What is bacteria?

1. Feeding:
Most bacteria are consumers, this means they cant use the sun to make their own food, which means why to have to feed by using other living things. Bacteria do not have a digestive system likes other things. Bacteria will wait for things to decompose before they eat them. They start to eat it when it is rotten.

2. Reproduction:
With bacteria, there is no women or male. The name for the way they reproduce is mitosis.  One bacteria does not need another bacteria to reproduce. They make more bacteria by constantly splitting when they need to. They can split every 15 - 20 minutes. The smaller cells are named daughter cells which means they will become identical, it will be the same colour and look the same.  They will stop splitting when they stop getting food.

3. Excretion:
The food bacteria eat is important which helps them survive. It gives them energy and helps them grow.  Exceritions also helps them repair parts and damage parts. There is also waste products of their digestion.  These wastes must be excreted or got rid of so that the bacteria do not poison themselves. They pass out through the bacterium's cell membrane, and into whatever they are living on or in. Bacteria feed on living things and causes diseases and are called pathogenic bacteria and they are harmful.

4. Breathing:
All different types of living things need oxygen so their cells can convert food into energy. The process is called preparation. Bacteria can carry out both aerobic and anaerobic respiration. Anaerobic respiration is when there is plenty of oxygen. Anaerobic respiration occurs when the supply of oxygen is very limited or non-existent.

Clowning

Hi, guys today I'm writing about what we did last week. We did some clowning in the theatre. Clowning is basically being a mimic and mining things. Something that I think about clowns is that they are ugly. For clowning, you basically pretend you trip over something, pretend to get hurt, be dumb, and act like a child. Sometimes they look like clowns or just have white paint on their faces while acting. We also watched some videos about clowning.

Women Suffrage - tic tac toe

Yesterday in Nga Tangata we started looking at women suffrage. The group I am in has to read 3 articles about Kate Sheppard. After we read the articles we have to do an activity. The activity is a tic tac toe(do 3 in a row). I asked my teacher if I could do a Kahoot with my friend about women suffrage and Kate Sheppard. The other tasks I did were list 2 things you're learnt from the text and your opinion about the text. Here is the work I did(not the kahoot).

Science - Yeast Alive Film

Today in science we are doing Yeast Alive Film. On Thursday we are making ginger beer. Yeast is alive in a hibernation state. Yeast is a fungi. The experiment we are doing is with a bottle, yeast and a balloon. We have to get into groups of three.

Experiment:
Here is the yeast experiment with a bottle, yeast and a balloon. The experiment is done in 3 bottles. Let's see what happens after 20 minutes.

Aim:
To look at how yeast is used in foods.

Research:
What effect does sugar have on yeast?
- The chemical reaction between yeast and sugar produces ethanol and carbon dioxide.

What is fermentation?
- A simple way of an expansion of fermentation is that it is a chemical reaction.

What are 3 foods/drinks that have yeast?
1. Bread
2. Ginger beer
3. Crackers

Equipment:
- Spoons
- Kettle
- Bowl
- Beaker
- Cloth sieve
- Funnel
- Plastic Bottle

Materials:

Bug (groups of 3)

- 50ml
- 1/2 tsp to active dried yeast
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger

Ginger beer (for 1 litre)

- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
- 1L cold water
- Juice of 1/2 lemon
- 1 tsp ginger beer bug.

 Method:

1. Ina large bowl, put sugar and cream of tartar, then add the warm water.
2. Stir to dissolve the sugar before adding the cold water.
3. Add the ginger beer bag to the large bowl of cold water.
4. Stir well and then pour into your clean bottle.
5. Label your bottle with your group names.
6. Place all the bottles in the class container.
7. Store in a cool, dark place for one week before drinking.
8. Make sure you open the bottle in the kitchen sink as it might overflow. Open the cap bit by bit to allow the air to escape.

The ginger beer must be dunk over the 6 days.

You must provide your own bottle.

We wanted to see how yeast was best activated. To do this we used 3 conical flasks, a teaspoon of yeast in each one, some warm water in each one and some sugar in one flask. We then put a balloon on the top of each flask. We found out that the flask that had the yeast and sugar inflated the balloon. It showed that when yeast has sugar it activates and creates a case called carbon dioxide gas.

Women Suffrage

Today in Nga Tangata we are learning about women suffrage and Kate Sheppard. I have learnt about women suffrage before. We looked at some videos about Kate Sheppard. After we watched the videos we shared back with the teacher. Then after sharing with the teacher we have to define some words in our own words. After we did that we have to do a comprehension. The comprehension is about women suffrage. After we read the article it came with we have to answer some questions. Here are the definitions and the answers to the questions.

Definitions:
Parliament: Parliament means a group of people in the government.

Suffrage: Suffrage means wanting the right to vote.

Convince: Convince means trying to make someone do something/agree.

Prohibitionist: Prohibitionist is someone who prohibition.

Answers:
The year that Maori men could vote is in the 1867s.

The reason why men thought women should not vote is because they thought they should be in the kitchen, keeping the house clean and looking after the kids. Another reason why they thought women should not vote is because they thought women should stay home and cook

The statement drinking their wages means that the men would go out the spend their wages on alcohol.

The WCTU help the poor by visiting hospitals, prisons and also setting up a soup kitchen to help men not spend their wages on alcohol.

The main forms that they used in their protests were giving out newspapers, leaflets had meetings and also held huge protest gatherings with inspiring speeches.

The reason why she is on our 10$ note is so we can remember her and what she did.

Using Images With Permission

Today in Tuhura we are learning about using images with permission. We had to watch a video about how to get pictures that are free to use. After we watched the video we have to do an activity. The activity is making a drawing of all about you. The way you can get photos for free is by searching for whatever you want. After you search for whatever you want, go and click tools on the side and then click usage rights. When you click usage rights you go and click creative commons licenses. The reason why it is good to use them that is because you won't get copyrighted or get a fine. Here is the work I did.

I didn't know who to do for my hero so I just did a person I watch

Soviets Declares War On Japan; Invades Machuria

Each week in Wānanga we have to do a task. The task is what happened on that day. I choose to do for the day is 8th of August, I choose to do it when Soviets declares war on Japan. I choose to do it on slides. I went on slidesgo and got a template to use. I haven't used slidesgo before. We can choose what site we do it on. Here is my work.

Masterton - Part 2 Snowing

Today in Wānanga we have to do a 200-word challenge. The reason we have to do a 200-word challenge is because it started snowing. For the 200-word challenge, I decided to make it another part of the Masterton/Mather story. I did 202 words. Here is part 2/writing and a photo of what it is supposed to look like.

It was a very cold day in Masterton. Everyone wanted to stay inside and not go to school. If you were home you would have your fire on and having a hot drink. I had to go to school though. It was close to period 2. There were light showers throughout the day so far. Some of the showers were rainy and some of them were light snow. When it was period 2 there were also other light snow showers but then it was actually snowing. In Masterton, it rarely snows here so this is a one time experience. The last time it snowed here was around 9 years ago. Everyone at the school I am going to goes out to see the snow if they are allowed to. I didn't go out to feel the snow but I did see it. After it finished snowing it was clear for a bit but then there was light snow. Soon the light snow stopped and it started to rain. In between the rain, there were bits of snow in it. When it was raining the sun came out. For some reason, you can see the sun but it is raining with light snow.

Drama - Five Elements

Today in Drama we have looked at the five elements. We are learning about them because we will be using them when we play later in the term. All of the elements initials together say FARTS. F stands for focus. A stands for action. R stands for role. T stands for tension. Lastly, S stands for space. The character I choose to do was Shouko Nishimiya. Shouko Nishimiya is from an anime. The anime is a silent voice. In the anime, Shouko is trying to make friends with the people in her class. All the people in the class she is in don't like her (Middle school). In the anime, it is placed in middle school and high school. She is being bullied.

100 Word Challenge

Today in wānanga if we have finished the on this day activity we have to do the 100-word challenge. We got two things we could choose to write about. The one I choose to write said "trust me". The other one was about hockey and I don't really like hockey. Here is the writing I did and a photo of the two choices.

It was a cold day in Masterton, everyone had their fire on and had the hot coco next to them. I wasn't inside in the warmth, I was outside trying to get a person to trust me. The reason why I was trying to get the person to trust me was because of my last name. My last name is Mather. My family has a very bad past with Masterton. No one likes my family because of it but the new generation is a lot better than our ancestors. That is the only reason why they won't be my friend. All I want them to do is trust me.

As you know my last name is Mather and you know that my family has a bad past with Masterton. My family was in high school when they came to Masterton. When my family came to Masterton no one liked them. My family "doesn't know" why no one liked them. When I got told the story of when they were there I thought it would have been about their looks. The reason I think that no one liked them because of how they look is because they looked very different from the other people back then. The real reason why people don't like them is because they are witches and wizards.

Springbok Comprehension

Today in Nga Tangata the group I am in have to do a reading comprehension. The comprehension is about the Springbok tour. After we read the article that it came with, we have to answer some questions. Here are the answers to the questions. Another word for apartheid is separatism. The reason why they wore helmets is because the police used special long batons. I think that they were upset that they were called honourary white is because it is offensive. The game in hamilton was cancelled because there was a big group of protesters that stormed the grounds. I think that the protests were successful because the tour didn't go on. The reason why I think that the New Zealand protests helped Nelson Mandela was because he was going to be the next president.

Chili Tasting

For the next week in science, we are learning about chili. We are also going to do a tasting on one of the days. We have to do some research about chili.

Section 1: Chili is a fruit and the chemical that makes it hot is called capsaicin. The reason that the capsaicin makes the chili hot is because triggers calcium ions to enter nearby neurons.

Section 3: The top six hottest chilis are:

1. Carolina reaper
2. Moruga trinidad scorpion
3. 7 pop douglah
4. Primo
5. Butch trinidad scorpion
6. Naga Viper

Section 4:The scoville chili scale is a tool for measuring the spiciness or pungency of the pepper.

Aim:

To see which is the best way to cool down the hot chili taste in your mouth while still eating it.

Hypothesis:

I think that by using coca-cola I will be able to remove the hot chili taste from my mouth.

 Equipment:
1. Milk
2. Water
3. Coca Cola
4. Tasting Cup
5. Chili

Method:
1. You will work in groups of three for this experiment. Each person in the group will use one of the drinks with the chili. You will then swap your results in your group so that everyone has the same results.
2. Each member of the group needs to have their own tasting cup. This will be used for putting the different liquids in as we cool off the chili in our mouths.
3. Place a piece of chili in your mouth.
4. After 10 seconds you will drink the liquid that you have in your cup. As you do this you will complete a results chart.

You will be recording the following using yes or no.
- The effectiveness of the liquid immediately.
- The effectiveness of the liquid after 10 seconds.

Use the chart below to record your results.

Chilli Tasting Results

Record: Yes or No

Immediately

After 5 minutes

Milk

yeano

Water

yesno

Coca Cola

yesyes

Summary and Results:

Milk does take away some of the taste immediately and it didn't take away the rest of the taster after 5 minutes.
Coke took away the effect immediately for my friend and it did the same thing after 5 minutes.
Water had a small effect immediately and had a greater effect after 5 minutes.

The summary is the most effective drink to take away the taste immediately would be milk.

Conclusion:

and Milk could be a solution when eating spicy foods - literally. That's because milk helps your mouth handle capsaicin, an oily chemical compound in chili peppers. Capsaicin binds to a receptor in the tongue and creates a burning sensation...  casein protein found in milk can also bind to the capsaicin and wash it away.

The Mirror Image - Springbok Tour

Today in Nga Tangata the group I am in is having to read about the Springbok tour. We have to read an article about Springbok. After we read the article we have to write a paragraph about their povs and their differences and the similarity. Here is the paragraph I did.

Something similar in their povs is that they are both watch rugby. Something that is different is that one of them like rugby and the other doesn’t. Another thing that is different in their povs is that Zodaw wants the Springbok to

be beaten and Meggie is supporting the Springbok. Even though Zodaw doesn’t

like rugby she will watch that game Another thing that is a similarity is that they

both think that it is fine that people of different races play. When Zodaw is watching

the tv and sees a sign that is racist, she probably feels very sad. When Meggie goes to the stadium, she is protesting against Springbok because they only brought their

white players.

Climate Change

Today in Nga Tangata we are looking at climate change protests that happened in New Zealand. We have to read a short article summarising the school climate protest. After we read the short article we have to watch a video. In the video, Jacinda Ardern is talking about climate change. Then after we watch the video we have to make a timeline about the protests. After making the timeline we have to define some words in your own words.

Word meaning:

Climate change: The temperature is rising and the temperature is getting low
Campaign: Someone organizing a course of action
Demonstration:  A showing of evidence or examples
Zero Carbon: Zero fossil fuels and chemicals

TouchPad Slides

Today in Tuhura we are working on cyber smart. We have to make a copy of a slide show that shows us how to use our touchpad on our Chromebook. After we finished we have to do another slideshow. Here is both of the slideshow I did.

Iraq Invades Kuwait - August 2nd

Each week in wānanga we have to do a task. The task is what happened on that day. Since today is the 2nd of August, I choose to do it when Iraq invades Kuwait. I choose to do it on canva. I decided to do presentations. I haven't done presentations before on canva. We can choose what site we do it on. I also had to do another one. Here is both of them

Blind Taste-Test

Today in science we are doing the blind taste test. We get into pairs and one person will be tasting and the other will be writing down.

Aim: To taste foods that are sweet, bitter. sour, salty.

Equipment:
1. samples 1-9
2. blindfold glasses
3. recording chart
4. ice cream stick taster.

Method:
1. get safety glasses and make a blindfold
2.set up your chart and make sure that the person you are working with knows where to record your responses.
3.Using an ice cream stick you will dip it into the sample. Once the sample is on the stick you will taste it and tell your partner your response.
4. There will be 2 answers.
5. At taste test one you need to hold your nose.
Answer 1. is it sweet, sour, salty, bitter. record it.
Answer 2. what do you think it is. record it.
6. Repeat this for the next samples but you will only need to use your ice cream stick taster for sample 1 - 4.

100 Word challenge

Today in wānanga I did the 100-word challenge. As you know I always go over the 100 words. I did 103 words. Since it is term 3 we have our stuff in a different place. We got 2 choices. I choose the frog because it's an animal and I didn't know what to do for the other one. Here is a photo of the choices and my 100-word challenge.

You know how the story starts. It was a lovely day everyone was out on walks. I decided to go to the gardens. I have never explored that whole garden before. I only have ever been to the garden part but not all of it. The is a big museum next to the gardens. It’s about 4 floors high. That is not what we are talking about. We are talking about the gardens.

I was walking around with my mint milkshake and I saw a weird frog statute. I have never seen it before.

The frog was making a heart with its fingers.

Music Through The Decades

For the past term in Tuhura, we have been doing decade slides. Each week on most Thursdays we did one slide. Each week the year would go down by 10. For example, the 1990s would be one week and the next week would be the 1980s. For the decades we did from the 2000s to the 1910s. On each slide, we put a song from that decade, some of the artists from that decade, what the fashion was like then and a few more things. We started doing the decade slides on week 1 on Friday. I really enjoyed doing the slide each week because I learnt what the music was like in that decade. Another thing I really like was when it was the start of each period and there was different music from each decade. Also, another thing I liked was when we were learning about drum lines. One thing I didn't like much was when we did the jamboards because everyone would be silly on it and people would be move other peoples stuff. Also, another thing I didn't like was when it was the same fast finish tasks each week. One thing I learnt was what some of the names of the notes are and how many beats they have. Another thing I learnt was how to make our own macarons/drums with cups, rice and balloons. My favourite type of genre is instrumental because sometimes when there are no lyrics and it's just instruments and some beats it makes it very nice sounding. One of my favourite songs that have a really good instrumental part is umbrella. One of my favourite bands are Arctic Monkeys and one of my favourites songs from them is why'd you only call me when you're high. Here are my decade slides.

CARR Stamps Encourage Students To Make Positive Choices

Today in Te Ao Whanui we are doing another do now. Every time we have To Ao Whanui we have to do a do now. For the do now we to write about a statement for 15 minutes. Each statement is different from the last one. The statement is "CARR stamps encourage students to make positive choices". I didn't have many ideas but I had some. Here is my writing.

I don't agree with this statement because even if we are doing positive choices we still don't get stamps. Even though students finish their work or help someone out they still don't get stamps. The CARR stamps don't do much.  Most of the time, teachers say to have our CARR cards out and still don't stamp us. There are only a few rewards if you get so much. When we get 5 full CARR cards we get a postcard home. When we get 10 full CARR cards we get a 5 dollars cafe voucher. When we get 20 full CARR cards we get 10 dollars to the cafe or the hub. Most of the time teachers have their CARR stamp on them and they don't even stamp. I don't like it when the teachers say that they will stamp our card but they don't. One of the things I like about them is that you don't have to pay to go to the cafe with your voucher. Most of the time my CARR card is in my pocket folded up.

Wants Writing

On Wednesday in Te Ao Whanui, we started doing a wants writing. I choose to do candy/lollies as my want. Last week we did needs writing. For my needs writing last week, I choose to do clothes. Last week I only had to do 3 paragraphs but I did 4. This week I have to do 5 paragraphs. Our teacher got us into groups of how many paragraphs we had to do. There is a group for 1, 2, 3 and 5 paragraphs. Here is my writing.
Let's talk about lollies and candy. Lollies were first made in the 16th century. The difference between lollies and candy is edible and lollie is a hard type of candy. George Smith was the maker of lollipops. Candy origin is mainly in ancient India. The oldest known candy is the chocolate cream bar made by Joseph Fry in 1866.
There are lots of different types of candy and lollies. One of the most popular candies is snickers. One of the most popular lollies is spaceman. Snickers is made by Mars Inc. Mars Inc is made by Franklin Clarence Mars. Spaceman is made by Bonza Confectionery. Some other popular lollies and candies are milky way, twix, M&M, Reese’s peanut butter cups, gummi bears and more. There are four different types of sugar in the candy. They are called glucose, fructose, sucrose and lactose. Fructose is fruit sugar. Sucrose is table sugar. Lactose is dairy sugar. Glucose is normal sugar. Most people take candy with the sugar they need. If you take too much glucose you can get diabetes. There are two different types of diabetes, there are type 1 and type 2. There is no cure for diabetes but if you have type 1 you can take pills and it will help you. Lollies and candy are mostly used as a treat. For example, if you finish your work at school and tell your parents you could get a lolly or candy. There are different types of ways candy and lollies can be used. One of the ways it can be used is by using it with your baking. Lots of people use lollies in their baking. Most people make lolly cakes. Lollies and candy have lots of different ingredients. It depends on the candy/lolly for what ingredients they use. Most candy use sugar, butter, cream and milk. There are more ingredients they use in candy. Most lollies use sugar and milk. There are also more ingredients they use in lollies.  This is why I think lollies and candy are a want.
