Playing To Win - Book Review

 On Monday I finished reading Playing To Win. Since I have already done a fast finish task our teacher said that we have to do a book review. Playing To Win was made by Fleur Beale. I didn't select the book my teacher did because they thought I could handle some of the stuff that happens in the story. I think the book was very good because it was full of drama but not to much drama and the characters interactions that happened. My favorite part of the book was at the end when Denny and Alice kiss. That we my favorite part because I like the ship and I predicted that it might happen. The characters were: Denny, Alice, Zak, Kyle, Sally, Clara, Todd, Rose, Lucy, Pete, Coach and Rugby boys. My favorite characters are Denny, Alice, Todd and Pete. I would recommend that if you are into rugby and drama you should read this book. I rate this book 5/5




EOTC Extra

  Today in Wānanga we got more time to finish our EOTC task. Since I have finished all the other work I got to do the extra. The task I choose to do was that we are a someone making a trip for a family and our budget is 200$. Since my other friend has finished her work we got to do it together. My friend that helped make this with me was Shanaya. We did the task on slide. Here is the DLO/task.

Speech Writing - Why Girl Should Be Allowed To Play Rugby No Matter There Age.

For the past few weeks we have been doing speech writing. I choose to do my speech about "Why girls should be allowed to play rugby no matter there age". Today we had to record our self saying our speech standing up. I didn't enjoy much about the speech unit. I didn't like recording myself and having to say it in front of people. I liked making the speech and choosing what I wanted to write about. Sometimes while doing this I thought people would judge me about doing my speech about rugby. I learnt that I cant talk infornt of people. The purpose of a persuasive writing is that you are trying to get people to make change or have a argument about sometime you don't agree with.

Adrenalin Forest - Poster

 Today in Wānanga we have started something new. The teacher showed us a slide show that we have to work on. One of the task on the slide show was create a poster about Adrenalin Forest. The task said that we have to tell you what you can do there. There is lots of things you can do there. One of the things you can do is climb and walk very high above the ground. Playing To Win Fast Finish Task - Kahoot

 Today in reading Playing to win group got to finish reading there book. After we finished reading we had to do fast finish task. One of the task was to make a kahoot about the book so I choose that one because it looked fun to make and it would be cool to make something that not most people make. I got to make the kahoot with a partner. My partner to help make the kahoot was my friend Shanaya. The kahoot has 22 questions. Me and Shanaya tried to make the kahoot long because it was a good book and there was lots of things going on.

Playing To WIn - Fleur Beale

Today in reading since we don't have our discussion questions today and we didn't read anything there wasn't much to do. Since we didn't have much to do we moved onto fast finisher tasks. The fast finisher task that I am doing is getting some information on the author of our story. The author's name is Fleur Beale. She is not  just an author she also used to be a teacher. The school she used to teach at was Canterbury University. She went to was Victoria University and Christchurch Teachers College to study. I don't think that this helped her a bit to write a novel but her family inspired her to keep on writing. Fleur Beale mother was also a writer. Fleur Beale published playing to win in 1999 and it came out to New Zealand in 2006. Her most popular book is "I am not Esther".




Speech Writing - Why Girls Should Be Allowed To Play Rugby When There Older Then 13

Since November 3rd we have been writing a speech. We had to choose a topic about what we don't like or what we want to change. My topic is "why girls should be allowed to play rugby when there older then 13. We had to time our speech when we are done writing it. I choose to write about this because I play rugby and I play with other girls in mixed teams but some of them are 13 and they are playing with there brother. So far I have timed my work 2 times and its 2 minutes long and couple of seconds long.Here is my speech. 

Do you ever get tired of not being allowed to play rugby? I do very much. Hi there, my name is Carla and I am here to tell you why girls should be allowed to play rugby.



Why should girls be allowed to play rugby? I think girls should be allowed to play rugby because it makes girls stronger and it makes girls more brave. Girls should be allowed to play rugby because it gives girls a chance for them to not be what their parents want them to be. There’s a stereotype for girls that want to play “boy sports” and their parents don’t support it. Most of the time girls don’t play rugby because they think boys will be mean and judge them about it. I know lots of girls that like rugby and want to play but they don't want to because they think they will get judged.



Not many clubs offer girls rugby teams. When you are 13 and younger you can play mixed teams. When girls in the country are older than 13 we are not allowed to play rugby until we are 18 and women’s teams are offered. When girls are older than 13 we have to go into town and play but sometimes in town it can be expensive. How do you think Emily Valentine became popular? Emily Valentine became popular because she played rugby. She was the first girl to ever play rugby in history that's how she became popular.



For me it is good to play rugby because it makes me less of a girly girl and it makes me have more confidence with what I want to be. Girly girls can still play rugby even though they like pink or they like dresses. It doesn't matter if we play rugby



Did you know the Black Ferns are better than the All Blacks? It is very true I tell you, if you don't believe me go and search. Rugby makes girls  have more questions. Girls can be the man. When girls remember who they are the game changes. That's why I think girls should be allowed to play rugby no matter what their age.

Kids Can Kahoot

Yesterday when we finished the assessment we were making we had to choose something from the kids can task board. One of the task we that we could choose what we wanted to do. So Me and my friends choose to create a kahoot. My friend that made this with me were, Shanaya and Alexia. Our kahoot was about Kids Can. We added questions like what was there logo and how much money we needed to raise. Our kahoot has 13 questions on it. Our teacher want us to finish it today so we can play it tomorrow in class. I finished it today while in class and before class. 

100 Word Challenge - Bubble

 Today since our teacher was away we have a simple day. Our task was to do the 100 word challenge.Our teacher put this on the slide to tell us what to write about: You have stumbled upon a life-size magic bubble which will allow you to float to any place in the world and remain safe and healthy. Where would you want to visit? I haven't had much expires with bubbles so I made up a story and a fan fiction I read. I got other the 100 words. Here is my work.

One day I was walking along a road. Soon I stumbled across a lake. The lake was crystal clear  and sawing smother. There were a lot of cars passing by. Soon there were too many cars and it got very windy. Soon enough I fell into the lake but when I fell into it… I GOT TELEPORTED. I got teleported into a different world. This plant is amazing. I want to stay here forever. This plant had animals that could talk and the people have powers. I started to walk to see if anyone was here. Soon I stumbled across a person. The person got scared and put me inside a bubble. The bubble started to fly away but not too far.

My New Shoe

 Last week since we were doing assessments. When we were finished we could do a creative task. I choose to create a shoe brand that I would create on without using images. We could make our shoe have powers. Here is my shoe and some of the description.

 This week we don't have to read any chapters because we have a short book. This week was ketchup and pickles week. Since I have finished all my work I got to do fast finish. One of the task was to make a book cover. I used canva to make the book cover. I tried to make the book cover have a rugby theme. Here is the book cover I made.

Playing To Win Video Trailer

 For the past twos weeks we have been doing reading. Since some of our group finished our work early. We got to do a movie trailer. We finished it today. The characters we used were Alice, Todd, Denny, Clara. The people that were in the trailer were Ashton, Shanaya, Alexia. The characters that they were was Ashton as Alice, Shanaya as Todd, Alexia as Denny and I(Carla) was Clara. We used Kinemaster and Ibis paint to edit and make stuff for the trailer. It was easy to use Kinemaster because I have used it before and it is a easy and simple site to use. Here is our video.

Playing To Win - Chapter 8 - 9

Today we have reading. Our task this week is to do our normal discussion questions because there is no school on Friday. If this chapter there was a fight with Denny and Todd. Todd has been playing with Denny's car because hes jelly of him. There is a lot of drama going on with Denny and Todd. Here is our discussion questions and answers are. 

Denny has lots of responsibilities in his life; he helps his Mum with finances, has a job, he takes care of his sisters and is part of a team. Do you think these are reasonable responsibilities for a sixteen year old? Why or why not? I think this is to much for a sixteen year old to deal with in his life because he also has school to do. It is bad to put so much stuff on teens because it makes them stressed and they think it is there purity to do it.


What responsibilities do you have in your life? How do you manage them and make sure you are completing everything you are trusted to do? Think about what you do at school and at home or in your spare time.  For me I don't have much responsibilities at home or at school. I get my school work done in time and I don't need reminders to do it.

Denny feels pressured to drink at the party, but he still says no. Why do you think the boys were pressuring him? Why do you think it is important to stand up for your beliefs? What values do you think he was showing by saying no to underaged drinking? I think that they are pressuring him because they think he is a pussy and that because he is older enough he is allowed to drink. I think it is important to stand up for your beliefs because your beliefs might make you a better person and other people better. Denny is trying to be a better person the what the the boys want him to be. Denny used lots of values for them. The values he used respect, resilience and integrity.

100 Words Challenge

 Today our Teacher is away on a course so we had to have a substitute. Today we had to do a 100 word challenge. Our photo was feet in snow or frost. Here is my work and the photo.

One day I was walking in my track up the mountain.

The track was abandoned and no one knows that it was there except for me and my family.

Today it was all snowie so we could see if there were other people on our track.

I continued to walk down the track still wondering who it was or what it was.

I looked at the foot print to see the human size.

As I walk down the track I see a man standing there looking at the dark grey sky and the snow

falling down. I approached him and talked for a while.

PE Gymnastics

 Today in PE we had to gymnastics. Our task was to take a photo or video. My group left me and did another thing so I had to do my stuff all by myself. I did the mat on the floor. My 3 activities I were backward, forward roll and forward roll into feet. One of our helper Teachers took a video of me. I found it fun to do the forward roll into feet because I have never done it before and rolling was fun. Here is a video of what it did.

200 Word Challenge

Today in wānanga we had to do the 200 word challenge. Our writing had to be about a whale trying to get a person. I tried to make get 200 words but it was hard because I didn't know what to write about. Here is the photo and the writing.

One day I wanted to do something new. Something I haven't done before. I haven't done diving before. I went to ask my friend if we could go today and he said that I have to wait 1 hour then meet him out at the ship rack. Later we met there and we went out to the ocean. Soon we got out in the far ocean and there were lots of sharks. Soon we got into our scuba gear and went down. We went down into the ocean and started taking videos about the sharks. Soon we got up and had a break. In that break we had some food and water to get our energy up. After we got our energy up we went back in the water. We went away from the boat to go and see the coral reef. We got to see the coral reef and when we were coming back from it. We saw something very big.  We turned back to see what it was and I couldn't tell what it was because I only got a glimpse of it. My friend got on the boat and left me. I tried yelling at him to help me get away from the animal.

 Today in reading we had to read chapter 6 - 7 for Playing to win. Our task was to put more on the character description we did in week 2 for Playing to win. In this chapter there was a lot going on about rugby and a girl. In chapter 6 the coach was introduced and he let Denny borrow his car to pick up his sisters. In chapter 7 there was a fight going on with Denny and Alice about rugby and why she doesn't like it. I added more description in Todd, Alice, Denny sisters, Coach and Pete and the rugby Boys.
