Today in Te Ao Whanui we got given another statement. The statement is Student should not have to wear school uniforms. Each period we have for Te Ao Whanui we get given a statement and we have to write about it. Here is my writing.
I agree and disagree with this statement. If we don't have uniforms we don't get to show who we really are. What I mean by who we really are is that with clothes you can show who you are(Tomgirl, girly girl, and more). Another reason is that clothes don't cost as much as uniforms. If you don't have uniforms there will be some rules though. One of the rules for if you don't have uniforms will probably be don't show the 3 Bs(boobs, bottom and belly button). Another reason will probably be not too much makeup. One of the good things if you have uniforms it shows what school you go to. Another reason if you have uniforms and you are good it gives a good review on the school. This is why I think schools should not have uniforms
I am a student at in Uru Mānuka. In 2020 I was a year 7 and in 2021 I will be a year 8. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.

Student Should Not Have To Wear School Unifroms
Book Review
Today since I finished reading Slide The Corner a few weeks ago I have to do a book review. Slide the corner is made by Fleur Beale. We didn't get to choose what book we could read but I am glad because I really like this book. I think this book is very good. One of the things I loved about it was that Greg still went on with his dream even though people were rude to him. I rate this book 5/5. I would recommend the book for people who like cars. Also why I would recommend the book is that there is a lot of drama and its also shows you that even if people are rude to you, you can still make your dream true. One of my favourite parts was when Greg started driving his mini. Another one of my favourite parts was when Greg's parents were warming up to him. The characters were Greg, Holly, Megan, William, Brad, Shane, Chris, Graham, Dad(I don't know his name). Mum(I don't know her name), Annabelle, Lindy, Mr Shepherd, Mr Carmody, Frenchie, Ted, Jim, Sandy, Gray, Ross, Kitty, Karen, Sam, Ronnie. Here is a photo of the book.

It Is Important That Year 7-8 Do Friday Sport
Today in Te Ao Whanui we have been given another statement. The statement is it is important that year 7-8 do Friday sport. If you don't know what Friday sport is it is sports that happens every Friday. You can choose what sport you want to do. You have to write if you agree or disagree and why. Here is my writing.
I think that it is important that year 7 and 8s do Friday sport. One of the reasons I think it is important is that you need to exercise each week. Even if you do sport in the weekend it is still important to do some sport in school. It is good that you do a different sport on Fridays at school than the one you do in the weekend. It is also good that you do at least 3 or more hours of sport each week. Another one of the reasons is because people are overwhelmed with school work and they need some times to let the energy out.
Friday sport is something that lots of schools should do. Why I think that lots of schools should do that is because if they don't have PE that term they can still get some exercise in. I also think that a group of year 9 - 13s each week should also do Friday sport. It should be a different group of year 9 - 13s each week and do a different sport as well. One of the reasons I think that year 9 - 13s should do it is because if they didn't choose PE as a subject.

Music - Orchestras
Yesterday in music we started learning about Orchestras. Today we had to research orchestras and make a slideshow or whatever we want to use. We got given questions to answer on the slideshow. Here is the slideshow I made.
Student Summit
Today I went over to Hornby Primary School to present and do some workshops for the student summit. For the student summit, I worked and presented with Alexia. The thing we choose to present was canva. I wasn't very nervous presenting but Alexia was. The presentation went very well. There were more people than I expected. Miss Tozer the teacher we went with made the students that were in the workshop send their work to her. Once they shared their work with her, she chooses some out and shares it on the tv. The reason we choose to do canva is because we have used it lots and it is very easy to use. My favourite part was when the students were working and we were looking at their work. The things I choose to do were creative coggleing and wedeo/wevideo. I didn't know what coggle was but when I was at the workshop I knew what it was. Coggle is a website that you can make mind maps on. I didn't also know what wedeo/wevideo was until we were at the workshop and I realised that I have used it before. If you don't know what student summit is. it's when different schools from the same cluster come together in one place and share what they have been working on during the time. People get to choose if they want to present and then share it with over kids. They could also choose to do some workshops. Before you present it you have to make a slide or something else that explains what the website or tool you are sharing is, how to use it, what it does. On the slideshow you make you can put examples of what you can do on it. Here is a photo from one of the workshops.

OREO Meaning
In Te Au Whanui we have started doing writing. We are doing persuasive writing. Our teacher told us what OREO means. OREO is used in persuasive writing. Since I have finished my work I had to do the fast finish. The fast finish was to make a DLO about OREO. Here is my DLO.
Needs Writing
Yesterday in Te Ao Whanui we started doing a need invention writing. The need invention I choose was clothes. Yesterday we also learnt about OREO. The Os in OREO stands for opinion. The R in OREO stands for reason. The E in OREO stands for example/evidence. Our teacher also read us another person essay that had 5 paragraphs. Here is my writing.
Let’s talk about clothes. Clothes were first invented between 114,00 and 30,000 years ago. In the olden days, they used animal skin to make clothes. The animal skin was also used to make shoes and tunic. Another thing that they used in the olden days was leaf type stuff and fur. Now let’s talk about why you need clothes to survive.
One of the reasons you need clothes is to keep you warm when it is cold. Also one of the reasons why you need clothes is to keep your body covered (private parts). If your body parts are not covered it can make it easier for people to harass you. One of the positives of not having clothes is making you less insecure. Then also with clothes people can make them feel less insecure with what they are wearing.
There are different types of clothing. For example, something to keep you not saturated is jackets and pants. In winter you need jackets and pants to keep you warm. Unlike in summer, some types of clothes don’t cover as much body as winter clothes do. Some of the clothes are crop tops, shorts, tops, tank tops, skirts, dresses and more.
There are more types of clothing. As you see there are many types of clothing. How would you feel if you didn’t have any clothes? If you didn’t have clothes would you kill an animal and use the skin for clothes. This is why I think we need clothes to survive.
Ice cream Is Better Than Cake
Today in Te Au Whanui we are doing another persuasive writing. The topic for this period is ice cream is better than cake. Here is my writing.
I agree that ice cream is better than cake. The reason I think that ice cream is better than cake is that cake is boring and plain. Unlike ice cream has different flavours and it mixes well with lots of things. One of the things I think is good with cake is ice cream. Ice cream is really nice with cake but it depends on the type of it. One of my favourite flavours of cake is ice cream or really nice chocolate. Some of my favourite flavours of ice cream are cookies n cream, churros, chocolate chip, caramel and more. Then are just some of my favourite flavours but there is more. One of the things I like about cake is when there is stuff on to like cream and fruits. I also like when the cake is coloured because it makes it not so boring and plain. Some of the things I like with ice cream is cream and fruit. When you mix ice cream and cream together it makes it like a runnier texture. This is why I think ice cream is better than cake.

Persuasive Writing
Today in Te Ao Whanui we are looking at persuasive writing. We have been given a statement which is cats are better than dogs. Now that we have been given a statement we have to write about why we agree or disagree with it or not. Here is the writing I did.
I disagree with this statement I think dogs are better than cats. The reason I think that dogs are better than cats is that dogs do lots more stuff. There can be some cats that do stuff but they don't do much. There are lots of things you can do with dogs. For example, you can take dogs on a walk and play fetch with them. When you walk the dog you also get exercise. Sometimes people take cats on a walk but not much. Most of the time cats are just laying around or they are at a different person house. Unlike cats, dogs play with each other and are all hyper. This is why I think dogs are better than cats.

Expected Behavior - Highlight
Today in wānanga we looked at our schools expected behavior. We were given a sheet that had a lit of expected behavior. We got a highlighter or a marker and we had to highlight what we did on the sheet. After we did that we have to make a blog. On the blog, we have to reflect on what we did well. The ones I most highlighted are commitment, achievement and respect. With respect, I always use good manners and always have my phone off. The reason I am reflecting on this for respect is that I do it all the time. With my phone, I always have it off and in my bag. The only time I use my phone is when I text my mother. With commitment, I always am ready for learning and always arrive with the right gear. Another thing I do a lot with commitment is being focused on your task and be in the right place at the right time. The reason I do this is a lot is that I try and be the best I can. With the achievement, I always do my personal best and meet deadlines. Another thing I do a lot for achievement is line up respectfully and follow expectations when entering spaces. With resilience, I aim to overcome difficulties and have a positive and can-do attitude. Another thing I do a lot for resilience is remaining focused and get to the right place.

DLO - Maths
Today in maths we watched a video and finished the work sheet from last week. After you did all of them you had to make a DLO explaining the different things. You could work with a partner. The person I worked with was my friend Alexia. Here is the DLO
Kiwi Innovators - Electric Fence
Today in Te Au Whanui I finished a kiwi innovator comprehension. This week I did an electric fence. Last week I did plastic surgery. After we read the article we have to answer some questions. Here are the answers to the questions. Bills problem was his horse because when his back was itchy he had a good rub on the car. He improved it by making it portable. Gallagher's system made it more efficient. The invention revolutionises New Zealand farming by saving money on fertiliser. The company grew a lot because he extended its range. After we answered the questions we have to create an ad for the electric fence. Here is the ad.
100 Word Challenge
Today in Wānanga we had to do the 100-word challenge. Even though I didn't want to write I write more then 100 words. I wrote 112 words. Here is the writing
It was a warm day, everyone was walking outside and shopping. I was just going for a walk and these random people came up to me. Of course because I don’t have people just run up to me. The people asked me if I could sing. Of course I said I can. After I said I can they dragged me into their car. After a while, we got to an auditorium and the people said to sing. Even though I didn’t want to sing I still did. They took me into the auditorium and showed me the way to the stage. When I got onto the stage I started to sing.

Kiwi Innovators - Plastic Surgery
On Wednesday in Te Ao Whanui I started another Kiwi innovators comprehension. Last week I did Pavlova. This week I am doing Plastic Surgery. I finished it today. Each week we have to do Kiwi innovators comprehension. After we read the article we have to answer some questions. Here is the answer to the questions. They were cousins. He performed facial surgery on soldiers that were mutilated by guns and bombs. The idea that faces should only be rebuilt but also made to look good. Mcindoe reconstructed the severely burned faces of young pilots and pioneered. Guinea pigs mean that they were performed on. I think that they were referred as the guinea pig club because they let themself be performed on. After we answered the questions about Plastic Surgery we have to watch three videos. After we watched the videos we have to do a task. The task is to make a video with 5 facts about stuff from the story. Here is the video.

STEAM - Fitting Through Paper
Today in Wānanga we started looking at a new kete. This kete is about STEAM/STEM. STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, art and math. We are doing the kete in our Wānanga group. Today for the STEAM kete we are doing a challenge. The challenge is to fit through a piece of a4 paper. We had to get into a group of 3 people. The group I was with was my friend Alexia and a classmate, Chelsea. After we got into a group of 3 people we have to get a piece of a4 paper and a pair of scissors. You are not allowed to use glue or tape or anything sticky. I think that it was a good idea that we made it big because then everyone will fit through the paper. If the paper was smaller we probably would not be able to go through it or it would be nearly the same. If the cuts were not as deep it probably would be the same. If the cuts were further apart it would probably be bigger. Here is the photo of our work. (sorry about the glowing)

Te Ao Whanui
Creative Writing:
It was a cold day in the ocean. Even though it was cold the scenery was still very beautiful. The scenery for most of the day was a bright blue sky with some clouds in the sky. Today was my day off from working on the waka. Most of the day I was laying down watching the sky. If I wasn't doing that I was watching the water go by. Sometimes I would put my hand into the water and splash the water onto my face to cool down. The food today we the same as the other day's rice and fish. The rice tasted blended and dry. The fish tasted very salty and dry.
A Word Of Feelings
The five words I choose to write about were anxiety, regretful, lonely, bold, Excited.
Excited: The reason why he might be excited is because he is going out onto the sea and is going to see things he hasn't seen.
Bold: He might be feeling bold because he is really proud of something
Lonely: He might feel lonely because there is no one around him.
Regretful: He might feel regretful because he did something and he isn't proud of it.
Anxiety: He might have anxiety because he thinks something bad will happen.
This is most affected to the Pasifika people and Maori people.
The thing that is getting in the way of the action is the government.
We can see this in New Zealand because in New Zealand there are lots of Pasifika people and Maori people.
The time we will know that this is acceptable when the government is allowing this to happen.
This is relevant to me because my family is Maori and I know people that are Pasifika and Maori. This is also relevant to me because it is happening around New Zealand.

National Young Leaders Day
Last week on Tuesday I went to National Young Leaders Day. National Young Leaders Day is all around New Zealand. The place it was at was Christchurch town hall. A group of ten people from that school I go to went. There were 4 people from Tieke, 3 people from Riroriro and 3 people from Mohua. The names of the people that went are Carla(writer), Dylan, Jade, Wiari, Sadie, Heath, Jazaky, Enzo, Sam and Finau. The teacher that went with us was Miss Tozer. Here are the names of the places that National Young Leaders Day happens. Auckland, Hamilton, Hawks Bay, Palmerston North, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. I think that National Young Leaders Day is a good event to go to because you get to see people that have been leaders. The people that come are people that have been around the world and have been through tough times. The people that came were Cam Colkoen, Brook Neal. Shay Wright, Benny Tipene. We got a book that we could write in and have info about the event.
Novel Study - Fast Finish
Last week in Wānanga since I finished my work for novel study I could do a fast finish task. The tasks we could do were making a Kahoot, do a q+a with a peer or 5 vocab words. The task I choose do we making a Kahoot. Even though my Kahoot is only 6 questions my teacher said it's fine. I don't really like my Kahoot but here is the link to the Kahoot. LINK

Kwi Innovators - Pavlova
Yesterday I did another Kiwi innovators comprehension. Even though I didn't finish my must do it until today. Each week we have to do Kiwi innovators comprehension. Last week I did the martin jetpack. This week I am doing pavlova. After we read the article it came with we have to answer some questions. Here are the answers to the questions. The Pavlova is a controversial because two countries claim that they invented it. Anna Pavlova was a Russian ballet dancer. Meringue is basically a smaller version of a pavlova. In the early 1927 in Wellington Terrace Congregation Church. Bert gave the name for the pavlova. I think it could have been both because they both could have written about it and made it at the same time. After we answered the questions about Pavlova we have to watch three videos. After we watched the videos we have to do a task. The task is to design a Pavlova. Here is the Pavlova I designed.
Te Ao Whanui - 3D Cat Armour
Today in Te Ao Whanui the group I am in has to watch a video about critical thinking. Even though I watched the video and the teacher told us I still don't understand it. After we watched that video we have to read an article. We could choose from any but I choose to read about 3D cat armour. This person makes armour for cats, the armour is black and it has spikes on the top, it also has a small piece of armour for the cats tail. After we read the article we have to answer some question. We get to choose what the questions are. Here are the answers.
People that benefit from this are cat lovers who want to see their own cats in cat armour.
They may be harmful to other cats when they try and hit that cat with the armour because they can hit the spikes.
I think that the strengths of the car armour are on the back because that's the probably thicker part. I think that the weakness is on the cattail and the head because they seem like they don't have much of the material.
I think that the most important thing is the back and head part because that's where other cats hit the most.
We could see this anywhere in the world.
I think that the parts that could be improved would be the tail and the head because there are parts that aren't necessary on it and there are parts that they could make better.
We will know we have succeeded when cats feel comfortable to wear the full amour without just falling over or trying to get it off them.
When this can cause a problem is when it hurts the cat.
People should know about this because they may want to see their cats wearing cool armour. We have allowed this to happen because there aren't really any problems with the cat armour, and it looks called.
This is similar to another armour for cats or other costumes for animals.
It can harm is other cats because of the spikes and sometimes humans when taking it off.
I think that our teacher should give us other sites to read on. Here is a link to a site you can read it on. LINK

Novel Study - Chapter 12 - 15
Last week I read 8 - 11 but since lots of people had overdue work, we didn't have any tasks. On Monday I read from chapter 12 - 15. After we read chapter 12 - 15 we had to answer some questions about what happened in the story. Here is the answers to the questions.
I think that it was good that Greg met the Chattertons because it's like they are another family to him. Greg feels happier with them because they give him opiates that his family would probably not given him. The Chattertons give him food, money, a job and rally opiates.
I think that they react like that because they don't want to spend money on something that he can buy but he doesn't have the money right now. They also might not want to buy it because it's not a streetcar. (What I mean by streetcar is that the car is a rally car). I can relate to this because when I ask for something they say that I don't need it.
I think that it is bad that they give him constant criticism but it is a good thing that his mother is warming up to him. It is important to praise your kids because then they feel like they are wanted and that they are loved. If you don't praise your kids they might not feel love and they might not feel like they are needed in this world.
I think that is it good that William is sticking up for Greg because it means that he is trying to make his father warm up to him. I also think that William is pleased that he saved their lives. I think that it is good that she is supporting her son because I making him want to live his dream more. It is also good that she is supporting him because William is not supporting and he needs a parent/sibling to support him.
I am predicting that something is going to go wrong with the rally but then I also think that something good is going to happen with the rally.
