100 Word Challenge

Today in wānanga if we have finished the on this day activity we have to do the 100-word challenge. We got two things we could choose to write about. The one I choose to write said "trust me". The other one was about hockey and I don't really like hockey. Here is the writing I did and a photo of the two choices.

It was a cold day in Masterton, everyone had their fire on and had the hot coco next to them. I wasn't inside in the warmth, I was outside trying to get a person to trust me. The reason why I was trying to get the person to trust me was because of my last name. My last name is Mather. My family has a very bad past with Masterton. No one likes my family because of it but the new generation is a lot better than our ancestors. That is the only reason why they won't be my friend. All I want them to do is trust me.

As you know my last name is Mather and you know that my family has a bad past with Masterton. My family was in high school when they came to Masterton. When my family came to Masterton no one liked them. My family "doesn't know" why no one liked them. When I got told the story of when they were there I thought it would have been about their looks. The reason I think that no one liked them because of how they look is because they looked very different from the other people back then. The real reason why people don't like them is because they are witches and wizards.

Springbok Comprehension

Today in Nga Tangata the group I am in have to do a reading comprehension. The comprehension is about the Springbok tour. After we read the article that it came with, we have to answer some questions. Here are the answers to the questions. Another word for apartheid is separatism. The reason why they wore helmets is because the police used special long batons. I think that they were upset that they were called honourary white is because it is offensive. The game in hamilton was cancelled because there was a big group of protesters that stormed the grounds. I think that the protests were successful because the tour didn't go on. The reason why I think that the New Zealand protests helped Nelson Mandela was because he was going to be the next president.

Chili Tasting

For the next week in science, we are learning about chili. We are also going to do a tasting on one of the days. We have to do some research about chili.

Section 1: Chili is a fruit and the chemical that makes it hot is called capsaicin. The reason that the capsaicin makes the chili hot is because triggers calcium ions to enter nearby neurons.

Section 3: The top six hottest chilis are:

1. Carolina reaper
2. Moruga trinidad scorpion
3. 7 pop douglah
4. Primo
5. Butch trinidad scorpion
6. Naga Viper

Section 4:The scoville chili scale is a tool for measuring the spiciness or pungency of the pepper.

Aim:

To see which is the best way to cool down the hot chili taste in your mouth while still eating it.

Hypothesis:

I think that by using coca-cola I will be able to remove the hot chili taste from my mouth.

 Equipment:
1. Milk
2. Water
3. Coca Cola
4. Tasting Cup
5. Chili

Method:
1. You will work in groups of three for this experiment. Each person in the group will use one of the drinks with the chili. You will then swap your results in your group so that everyone has the same results.
2. Each member of the group needs to have their own tasting cup. This will be used for putting the different liquids in as we cool off the chili in our mouths.
3. Place a piece of chili in your mouth.
4. After 10 seconds you will drink the liquid that you have in your cup. As you do this you will complete a results chart.

You will be recording the following using yes or no.
- The effectiveness of the liquid immediately.
- The effectiveness of the liquid after 10 seconds.

Use the chart below to record your results.

Chilli Tasting Results

Record: Yes or No

Immediately

After 5 minutes

Milk

Water

yesno

Coca Cola

yesyes

Summary and Results:

Milk does take away some of the taste immediately and it didn't take away the rest of the taster after 5 minutes.
Coke took away the effect immediately for my friend and it did the same thing after 5 minutes.
Water had a small effect immediately and had a greater effect after 5 minutes.

The summary is the most effective drink to take away the taste immediately would be milk.

Conclusion:

and Milk could be a solution when eating spicy foods - literally. That's because milk helps your mouth handle capsaicin, an oily chemical compound in chili peppers. Capsaicin binds to a receptor in the tongue and creates a burning sensation...  casein protein found in milk can also bind to the capsaicin and wash it away.

The Mirror Image - Springbok Tour

Today in Nga Tangata the group I am in is having to read about the Springbok tour. We have to read an article about Springbok. After we read the article we have to write a paragraph about their povs and their differences and the similarity. Here is the paragraph I did.

Something similar in their povs is that they are both watch rugby. Something that is different is that one of them like rugby and the other doesn’t. Another thing that is different in their povs is that Zodaw wants the Springbok to

be beaten and Meggie is supporting the Springbok. Even though Zodaw doesn’t

like rugby she will watch that game Another thing that is a similarity is that they

both think that it is fine that people of different races play. When Zodaw is watching

the tv and sees a sign that is racist, she probably feels very sad. When Meggie goes to the stadium, she is protesting against Springbok because they only brought their

white players.

Climate Change

Today in Nga Tangata we are looking at climate change protests that happened in New Zealand. We have to read a short article summarising the school climate protest. After we read the short article we have to watch a video. In the video, Jacinda Ardern is talking about climate change. Then after we watch the video we have to make a timeline about the protests. After making the timeline we have to define some words in your own words.

Word meaning:

Climate change: The temperature is rising and the temperature is getting low
Campaign: Someone organizing a course of action
Demonstration:  A showing of evidence or examples
Zero Carbon: Zero fossil fuels and chemicals

TouchPad Slides

Today in Tuhura we are working on cyber smart. We have to make a copy of a slide show that shows us how to use our touchpad on our Chromebook. After we finished we have to do another slideshow. Here is both of the slideshow I did.

Iraq Invades Kuwait - August 2nd

Each week in wānanga we have to do a task. The task is what happened on that day. Since today is the 2nd of August, I choose to do it when Iraq invades Kuwait. I choose to do it on canva. I decided to do presentations. I haven't done presentations before on canva. We can choose what site we do it on. I also had to do another one. Here is both of them
