Mahinga Kai

For the past weeks we had to learn about Mahinga Kai, Te Tiriti O Waitangi and Tangata Whenua. Last time we had to create a blog post about Te Tiriti O Waitangi. We had to reads about the texts. Different Types Of Sentence

Today I have to explain the different types of sentence types you all reading. If you don't know what a very short sentence or w start or adverb start, they are type of sentences that you can use when writing. Very short sentence mean is were that sentence only have 5 or less words. W Start means where you have a word that starts with a W like While, When Where, eg. Adverb Start means the sentence with a word that ends with a ly like Quickly, Nervously, Sadly, Angrily, Joyfully. The different types of sentences we learnt were:

• Very short sentence
• W-Start
• Adverb Start ( -ly )

Here are some examples of the sentence.

Very Short sentence: 

You can grow plants in soil.

You can grow plants in beakers.

The W Start:

When you grow plants in a beaker, it won't be as big if its in soil.

When you grow plants in soil, it will be bigger then when you grow it in a beaker.

Adverb Start:

Nervously, the kids sat in the science room waiting, for the teacher to say that they finished it.

Quietly, the kids sat in the science room while the teacher explain what to do with the seed and beaker.

  

Te Tiriti O Waitangi

For the past weeks we had to learn about what group you are in. The group I am in is Te Tiriti O Waitangi. We had to read a book called "Te Tiriti O Waitangi" and made by Ross Calman and Mark Derby and illustrated by Toby Morris. Here is the link so you can listen to the book. Here is my work.

Te Tirirti O Waitangi

2 Days ago we watched a video about Te Tiriti O Waitangi the video was called "The Aotearoa History Show - Episode 4 | Te Tiriti o Waitangi" here is the link to the video (Link). Here is some facts that we got from the video. 

Facts:

• The Māori population in late 1830's was down from 100,000 to 70-80,000.
• The two main reasons for the drop in population were Disease and War.
• The name of the main settlement in Aotearoa New Zealand at this time was Kororāreka or you might say Russell.
• The rangatira and missionaries were unhappy with what was happening in the town: British taking over, Parting, Unfair trades.
• The Te Tiriti O Waitangi was neglected because it was Buried, a lot of water was going on the paper, it was damaged and lastly it rotted.
• The British saw France as a threat because they were trying to colonise NZ.
• 500 chiefs from around the country signed the treaty.
• Tino Rangatiratanga means having your own way.
• The Māori believed that they would still be in control of their land.
• The methods the Māori used to beat the British in the Northern War were trenches, Flake walls, ambush and log walls.

Chris Hadfield

Today in hurumanu 3 we had to watch a video made by Chris Hadfield  it was called "Wet Washcloth in Space" here is the link to the video. The teacher gave up a question to answer here is the question: What happens to a wet wash cloth in space? My answer is the water will go all over your hand like jelly and gel. Here is a photo of him.

Very Short Sentence

Today in Hurumanu 3 Writing/Science we learnt about more types of sentences so we know different types of to start a sentences. We had to learn about this so we know more type of sentences to start and if they need to start with adverb or additive. We had to write 3 very short sentence, 3 the w-start and adverb start then we had to write a paragraph with 1x w start, 2x adverb start and 1x very short sentence in the paragraph . Here is my work.
