Poetic Arts

This past term we have been doing Poetic Arts and we have done lots of different type of art. The type of art and poems we had done are, haiku, diamante, weaving, tapa, collage and watercolour. My favourite part of art was when we did watercolour and weaving the most. My favourite part of the Art display is the poems and weaving because the poems were really nice and got good wow words, the weaving was really cool and it was easy and very pretty.  The haiku was really challenging because I didn't know what to write it about and what wow words to put on it. My favourite style of poetry to write in this hurumanu was diamante poem. I thought this hurumanu was really cool because it was different from the rest of them. here is my Art display.

100 Word Challenge

Today we got to do something new, called "100 Word Challenge". What is 100 word challenge? 100 Word challenge is a piece of writing that tells someone about the photo but it has to be in a 100 words. Here is the 100 word challenge and the photo.

100 Words:

Grizzly Bear jumping in a lake for food.
Trying to catch a nice fish to eat.
Big, strong and a fuzzy Bear.
Looks so fluffy and nice but its not its deadly and strong.
Grizzly Bear going in for the catch
Grizzl (Bear) hunting for his family so they can survive the winter.
Water making Grizzl all cold, freezing and wet but not enough to keep him from feeding his family.
Grizzl getting colder the more he is there in the water but he needs food for this cold and starving family. Grizzl trying to get fish, sadly fish running away.

Volume

For the past week in maths we are learning what volume is and doing work sheets about it. Last week we had to do the volume in the classroom, cupboard, ball bin and gym, I didn't get all the measurements in one day but I got them all. The 3 means so you know that it is volume, and if you don't put the 3 there you got your work wrong. Volume is a type of maths measurement, at first you might think its hard but its not when you get going on it. Volume: if you fill up a cup of water it is ml. In volume you use Kl(Kiloliter), Ml(Milliliter), L(liter) or M(Meter), Cm(Centimeter) and Mm(Millimeter). Here is my maths work.

Figurative Language

Today I have to describe what a simile and metaphor is to you. Here is one simile and metaphor from PaperBoy. Metaphor: “Mrs. Worthington and her red hair. That was the dessert of my thinking” (p. 156). Simile: “[Mr. Spiro] sounded official like he was calling a baseball game on the radio”
(p. 30). What is a simile?: A simile is a repranse with like or as, here is a example: The dog was running as fast as a cheater. You can us similes and metaphors in writing. What is a metaphor?: A metaphor is a figure of speech in which word or a phrase is applied to an object or action. Here is a example of a metaphor: Her heart is gold. The activity said we had write a metaphor that best describes Little Man’s relationship with Mam and write a simile that describes Little Man’s communication with TV boy. Here is the simile and metaphor.

Simile: Both don't talk alot like a turtle very quite.

Metaphor: Little Man and Mam are very strong together.

PE: Weight

Today I had to do all of this. We had to choose between 20-40. I choose 25. Here is some of the work I did today

Paper Boy - Novel Study

Today I read chapters 10-12. I wish I could read more but we have to do it at different times. Sadly Mam was still busted up. Here is some events that were in the story. Little Man's parents went on a business trip. Little Man sneaks into Ara T's shed to try and find his yellow handed knife but instead he found his old big chrome headlight from his old schwinn. Mam had a choir on. Little Man and Mam went to the zoo. The dialogue is write different from normal books. When Little Man speaks it says  s-s-s-s Yes Ma'am s-s-s-s But only a s-s-s-s little one. When other people speak it says, have you flown in it, no speech marks or nothing. The speech parts from page 17 when Little Man is talking to Mrs Worthington.

Paper Boy Question

Yesterday I finished reading chapter 9. When we finished chapters 7 - 9 you had to go onto the next slide and there was questions. In chapter 9 Mrs Worthington was drunk and didn't give the money for the news paper. Mam had a fight with someone but didn't tell Little Man so Little Man was sad. Here is the questions and answers.

Q: What is the conflict between Ara T and Little Man? How will it be resolved?

A: The conflict between Ara T and Little Man is that Ara T is not giveing Little Man his yellow handed knife back. Ara T is trying to get Little Man to say knife but he cant say that because the k is to hard for him to say. I think that Little Man will come out and say that Ara T is not giving his knife back.

Q: Why do you think Little Man likes Mr Spiro so much?

A: I think Little Man likes Mr Spiro because he is always there for him and lets Little Man ask him questions that he is scared to ask his parent them. Mr Spiro lets Little Man talk and doesn't interrupt Little Man.

Q: Research what a speech pathologist does. Explain what their job is and how they help people.

A: A speech pathologist is sort of like a speech therapist. They help with speech sounds, language(aphasia), social communication, voice, fluency, cognitive-communication, feeding and swallowing. You can find speech pathologist at private practices, physicians' offices, hospitals, schools, colleges and universities, rehabilitation centers, long-term and residential health care facilities.

Q: Who is Mam? What is her role in the family?

A: Mam is a like a caregiver for Little Man. She helps the family out with dinner and work. Mam is always nice to Little Man but she keeps secrets from Little Man.

Watercolour Art

Last week we had to do watercolour. We got given a piece of paper and it had 4 corners. On the first corner it said blend. On the second corner it said salt. On the third corner it said drip. On the last corner it said splat. The colours I used were blue and red, warm and cool. The blue turned to purple and the red turned into a pink but it also stayed the same. Here is my watercolour art.

Speaking My Truth Questions

Yesterday in Speaking my truth we got given a piece of paper. We had to choose a character from a story. The story was called "Benny". The characters were Mum, Benny and I. I choose to do I. On the piece of paper we had to put 5 or more questions down the are open not closed questions. Here are the questions I put down.

  1. How did you feel after Benny moved school?
  2. What are you and Bennys favourite subjects and why?
  3. If Benny still talked to you would you bring up the fight you had and why?
  4. If Benny still talked to you would it be awkward or?
  5. If you could change last week, what would you change?
  6. If Benny didn't move would you still got to eastbourne and why?
The teacher made us do hot seating (if you don't know what that is go to another blog it did) and recorded it. Here is a example of hotsetting:

Diamante Poem

Last week we had to create a poem. The poem we made is called "Diamante". Diamante poem is a poem that has 7 lines and it is shaped as a diamond. In line 1 we had put the starting subject. In line 2 had to put 2 words describing line 1. In line 3 we had to put 3 doing words (ing). In line 4 a short phrase about line 1 and 7. In line 5 we had to put 3 doing words about line 7. In line 6 we had to put 2 describing words about line 7. In line 7 we had to put the ending subject .We had to create the poem about a book. The book was called "The Taniwha of the Rakaia gorge". We had to thing about 2 things from the story and we had to write the poem about them. Here is my poem.

Character Description

Today I am starting a new activity for PaperBoy. In the activity we have to describe 2 characters from the story, the 2 characters I am doing are "Mr Spiro" and "Mrs Worthington". Here is a short summary of the 2 characters. Mrs Worthington: She can be mean and nice if she is in a good mood, there is always weird sounds coming from here house. Mr Spiro: Always nice, always here to talk to you, invites you to talk if you want. I know that because Mr Spiro always talks to little man and always invites him in the story. I know this because that first time little man meet Mrs Worthington she was all rude and strict to little man but later on in the story Mrs Worthington was nice to him and asked him if he wanted a drink and have a little talk.

Reflect On Paper Boy

Today I had to watch a video. The video was about Paper Boy. In the video the author(Vince Vawter) read chapter 1. Here is the link to the video.
In the video Vinces voice there was a tiny stutter in every word he said. Vinces voice was quiet but loud enough to hear him. His voice was calm and smooth. His voice was different to most people because his voice was stuttering a tiny bit.

Tapa Cloth Inking

Last week we had to put ink on our tapa cloth. I thought it would be hard to put the ink on it and there would be more instructions but there wasn't. The materials we used were white ink, brown ink, newspaper and water. First we had to put the newspaper on the table. second the teacher gave us ink and water and she told us how to do it. last we put the ink and water on the paper.A tapa cloth is a thing made in the Pacific Ocean and it is originally made out of bark and trees. Normally people do 6 - 8 boxes if they are on paper but if they are on a cloth you can make as much as you want as long as it fits on the cloth. The word tapa is from Tahiti. It doesn't look different yet but it will when it drys. We had to create a haiku. Here is my haiku and tapa.

Haiku
Ink, water paper, chalk, water, charcoal,

Benny

For the past week we had to draw stuff about a book. The book is called "Benny".
We go given a piece of paper and we had to filled to into 6 squares.
Then the teacher read parts of the story and when to finished reading the part we had to draw the main event in the part.
On the back of the paper we had to draw a person and choose from Benny or I.
In the person we had to put there emotions they felt and what we think they are like and there personality. The person on the back of the paper was called "Role On The Wall"
The teacher showed us a thing called Iceberg.
At the bottom of the iceberg we had to put stuff down that was not in the story and it doesn't show. At the top of the iceberg is were we put what was in the story and what it does show.

Paper Boy

Last week I started a new books called "Paperboy" it was made by Vince Vawter. I have only read chapters 1 - 6. My first impression about the story is, I think so far it is a 3/5 but I haven't read all of the novel yet. I am looking forward to when we have to create something about the story and read more about it. The characters in the story are Mrs Spiro, Mrs Worthington, Ara T, Mam/Miss Nellie Avebe, Rat, John, Art. I think this related to "Speaking My Truth" is that you can speak to people when there is something bad going on even though you don't want to. I think there is going to something bad going to happen to him later on in the story. Here is a summary of the story, Little man throws the meanest fastball in town. But talking is a whole different ball game. He can barely say a word without stuttering-not even his own name. So when he takes over his best friend's paper route for the mouth of July, he's not exactly looking forward to interacting with the customers. But it's the neighborhood junkman, a bully and a thief, who stirs up real trouble in little mans life.

Tapa Cloth Art - Tuna o Runga i te Rangi

Last week we had read a book called "The creation of Tuna" Tuna o Runga i te Rangi is the name of the Tuna. We had to create a haiku and a tapa cloth about the book. The materials we used were black, light brown paper and white, brown chalk. A tapa cloth is a thing made in the Pacific Ocean and it is originally made out of bark and trees. Normally people do 6 - 8 boxes if they are on paper but if they are on a cloth you can make as much as you want as long as it fits on the cloth. We have to use 2D shapes not 3D. The symbols I used were the sun, lake, trees, heaven, vine and the Tuna that was cut into pieces. The word tapa is from Tahiti. It was hard to create my haiku because my tapa cloth was not with me and couldn't find words about it. Here are my haiku and tapa cloth. If I did this again I would of tried to do my drawings better and make it have more sense.

Haiku
Black and White colour
The symbols are simple

The Present

Today I watch a short film, it was called "The Present". Here is the link to the video that we did. The film was about a boy with 1 leg and a half and his mother came in to the lounge and gave him a present .The teacher gave us some question to answer. Here are my answers. I think the boy was like "I don't care" and "its nothing special". At the beginning he was like "its got 3 legs what the!" I knowed he was didn't like it because he let go of the puppy fast and his face expression was like ew. He felt that way because he saw that he had 3 legs and he didn't like that. The lesson of the film was that be grateful about everything you get even if its little. It is important to be grateful for what we get bacause some other people dont get the chance to get stuff like that and you might not of even got it.

Freeze Frames

Today we had to take a photo of our freeze frame and say what the character were thinking. The book we did the freeze frame about was called "Bok Choy". The book was by Paul Mason. A freeze frame is people in  group making a point about the story and the people are holding the photo for 3 seconds. We got given into groups we could of been in 1,2,3,3,4,5 or 6. I was in group 3. The characters in the story were Jacob, Jacobs Mother, Ah Sum, Mrs Bishop and William. Here is my groups freeze frame.

Benny

Today I had to read Benny it was made by Bernard Beckett, and illustrated by Pippa Keel. The book was about “That day last week shouldn’t have been different, but it was.”. The teacher gave us some questions to answer. Here are my answers.

Benny loved to play rugby and the other person liked to watch league not rugby. Benny was tall and his friend was up to his armpit.

Bennys friend didn't like that Benny moved away from him because he will not see him for a long time.

The mother feels very disgusted that a teen would do that to a kid. I think her reaction was what a normal mother would do if her kid was pushed into the water.

I think that the author's purpose was to let other people give stuff a try or don't be afraid to help.

I think the themes in the story were to be nice to people and not to push them to do something.

Here is a activity I had to do
